Sectorial Agreement for Reverse Logistics of Electronics: how to adapt?

Ademir Brescansin, executive manager at Green Eletron

In October we celebrate the first year of the signing of the Sectorial Agreement for Reverse Logistics for Electronics. The document was signed by the Ministry of the Environment together with entities in the sector that contributed to its preparation, such as the Brazilian Association of the Electrical and Electronic Industry and Green Eletron, a management entity that implements and coordinates the reverse logistics of these devices.

The agreement is a complement to the National Solid Waste Policy and sets targets for manufacturers, importers, distributors and retailers on the issue of recycling electronic equipment. It also symbolizes the industry’s commitment to reducing the impact of its production chain on the planet.

Only 78 countries have legislation that structures the implementation of a formal regulatory framework for reverse waste logistics. Brazil has become one of them after almost 10 years of discussions and is preparing to recycle, by 2025, 17% of the equivalent in weight of the products sold in 2018.

After the signing of the agreement, a period was given for all companies to regularize themselves: to implement systems for their products or to join a specialized manager. Some have already prioritized this legal requirement and have joined Green Eletron. But there are many that did not fit in. There is still time, but it is essential to seek information on the topic and analyze the best possibilities to achieve the established goals.
