WHY DO WE NEED TO TALK MORE ABOUT RECYCLING?

On May 17th, we celebrate International Recycling Day. The date, created by UNESCO – United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, is an invitation to reflect on the importance of reusing waste after disposal.
Recycling gives new meanings to products that are no longer useful. This becomes even more important when we remember that we are the 4th largest producer of waste in the world and the 5th in the production of electronic waste (electronic devices and waste batteries), recycling only 3% to 5% of all this volume. Therefore, we are still in the midst of a challenge of enormous proportions.
These numbers surprise me, as they are a counterpoint to many current developments, such as artificial intelligence or the possibility – which is coming – of visiting space. The population’s knowledge about reverse logistics needs to be stimulated, so that the benefits of this process are increasingly tangible.
Just like the date celebrated in May, there are others during the year that aim to draw attention to the issue of electronic waste. But I leave here a provocation: do we need to wait for “correct” moments to talk about it? Are you, an industry and retail entrepreneur, helping to spread environmental awareness? If you need support, count on the contents of the Eletrônico não é Lixo (Electronic is not a waste) movement.
