Wearable tech at a high

Wearable tech at a high

Mobile devices – which include fit bands, smartwatches, headphones and smart glasses – are the fastest growing category in sales, although it is still considered a niche market. An IDC Brasil study reveals that in the first quarter of this year, sales of fit bands and smart watches reached the mark of 87,974 units in Brazil, a growth of 51.6% over the same period in 2018.

As in other categories, simpler devices, such as those that count the steps in a walk and that monitor sleep, have given way to robust products with new technologies. In 2018, 110,400 units of basic devices and 130,900 units of the more intelligent ones were sold. In the first quarter of 2019, the number of basic devices sold was 39,360 units. The most sophisticated ones sold 48,614 units.

PC market grows again

Computer trade in the world grew between 1.5% and 4.7% in the second quarter of 2019 over the same period last year. Between 63 million and 64.9 million units were sold in the period, according to Gartner consultants.

The increase in sales is related to the renovation of the machines worldwide. Several companies are investing and renewing their equipment, mainly because of the end of the Windows 7 support cycle, scheduled for January 2020.

Increase in use of shopping applications

The third annual survey on the application-trading market reveals the rise of the trend to look at virtual stores as if they were physical shop windows in Latin America, Asia Pacific and North America. It also shows that Latin America has the highest rates of registrations in shopping applications: 56% of the users that reach them end up registering.

In 2019, there is more stability than in 2018 in the cost to attract the user to a retail app for the first time. The current value, between US$30 and US$45, is one-third lower than last year. Installation fees for purchase have risen nearly 50% as users are increasingly comfortable using mobile devices in their purchases, notes the Liftoff Shopping Mobile Apps report in partnership with Adjust.

Marketplace Pilot

Magazine Luiza has been testing a marketplace pilot with ABC da Construção, a retailer with stores in Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais. Called Parceiro Magalu, it allows the retailer to sell, via the application, any of the four million products of Magazine Luiza in its store. The delivery is made by the retail network. The retail giant pays up to 8% commission per product sold.

Another action of magazine – #BugDaLu, when an error in the system benefited consumers at a great discount and the network honored the commitment – will be included in its calendar of events, due to the repercussion achieved. Magazine Luiza’s App was the most downloaded one from the Apple Store at the time and the most talked subject about in social networks. Of the total number of customers who purchased products during this action, 71% had made their first purchase on the network.
