The advances of reverse logistics in Brazil

Two years ago, the federal government instituted Federal Decree 10,240/2020, which regulates the National Solid Waste Policy (PNRS), in force since 2010, and complements Decree No. 9,177 of 2017, regarding the implementation of a reverse logistics system for electro-electronic products and their household components. This established shared responsibility for distributors, traders, manufacturers and importers of electrical and electronic products and appliances.
To move forward in this process, the appliance industry is investing in expanding the infrastructure required for consumers to dispose of their products. As a result, reception points have been set up all over Brazil (there are now over 3,800 all over the country, in over 1,200 municipalities), 26 reverse logistics centers have been opened in all Brazilian state capitals and in the Federal District. More than 100 partners (reverse manufacturing companies, consolidators, transporters and cooperatives) were also approved.
I also highlight that, every year, ABREE presents performance reports to the competent environmental bodies on the entire reverse logistics process carried out the previous year. The records and evidence are available and traceable, so that the association demonstrates to the agency the compliance of the whole process. There is still a long way to go! In order to increasingly improve reverse logistics in Brazil and definitively establish the culture of conscious disposal, it is essential to carry out these actions together with the awareness of the final consumer.
