1st quarter GDP does not reflect the reality of the electronics and household appliances industry

The 1% growth in GDP in the first quarter confirms the increase in the participation of the services sector in the economy, which has been occurring since the pandemic cool down and, therefore, was already expected. On the other hand, the performance of industry remained stagnant, which, given the current macroeconomic scenario, would not be bad at all.
However, one must consider that the secondary sector, as industry is also known, is very broad and congregates a series of segments with very different realities. In the case of consumer goods industries, a category which includes our electronics and household ap-pliances sector, the scenario has been more negative than average.
With the increase in inflation, which contributes considerably to the reduction in family income, the consumption priority has been first necessity items, such as food, medication and transportation. It is also necessary to consider the influence of high interest rates, which do not make it easy to take out credit.
But do not give up! Even with adversities, our industry has deposited its expectations in a more positive second semester. This is the period when important dates such as Black Friday and Christmas are celebrated, which may be a relief for this year. And the World Cup may also be a contributing factor to a more positive scenario.
For all these reasons, we expect upward changes in the sector’s performance in the com-ing months, always invested in the mission of keeping the market supplied with innovative and competitive products, to motivate consumers and improve the quality of life of Brazilian families.
