Utopia or dystopia? The script for the future is being written now

We like to dream about the future. No wonder that many films and books have been made about realities with flying cars, space travel and overdeveloped robots. However, according to the World Economic Forum’s latest The Global Risks Report 2022, eight out of 10 people, that future is looking more like a dystopia, with extreme temperatures, biodiversity loss, infectious diseases, wars and debt.
I know that most people will think that this reality will never happen. But this is exactly the future we can ex- pect if we just continue with current policies, according to the report. And the most curious thing was to see that most people expect that future. Only 16% of respon- dents feel optimistic and positive about the world of the coming decades. Even fewer people (11%) believe that the global recovery will accelerate. And this is the part that leaves me shocked.
For a long time, I thought people didn’t want to believe in global warming but looking at this survey it’s clear that the message has gotten through. And we all have an im- portant role to play individuals by redefining consump- tion, companies by redefining manufacturing processes and corporate growth, and governments by overseeing and ensuring the well-being of all parties.
I still fall into the 11% who believe in global recovery and look forward to a future of prosperity and working to create it. And you, which side are you on? side are you on?
