Eletros: Three decades of achievements and challenges

Association works to strengthen the electrical and electronics industry.

Founded in a scenario of economic instability and regulatory complexity, the National Association of Manufacturers of Electrical and Electronic Products (Eletros) has become a reference in the technical and strategic defense of the industry.

In its 30-year journey, many important challenges were faced in regulatory, tax, political and economic areas, especially during periods of instability that affected consumption and the business environment in Brazil, says José Jorge Nascimento Jr., Executive President of Eletros.
“By overcoming these obstacles, the entity was consolidated as a reference in the defense of the national electrical and electronics sector.”

“We are protagonists in the generation of qualified jobs, appreciation of human capital and promotion of sustainability.”

Among the most relevant achievements are the consolidation of the legal framework for energy efficiency, support for the modernization of production processes, the defense of the competitiveness of Brazilian industry and the repositioning of the sector as a protagonist in economic, social and environmental issues. Qualified engagement with the Executive, Legislative, Judiciary and press is also a hallmark.

José Jorge Nascimento, Executive President of Eletros

Institutionally, Eletros has strengthened itself by expanding its representativeness, diversifying agendas and consolidating presence throughout the country. “We currently bring together 37 member companies, present in 10 Brazilian states. We are a strong, innovative sector increasingly aligned with the country’s development,” highlights the president.

Representativeness

Currently, Eletros represents companies of all sizes in the country, in the areas of home appliances, IT goods and electrical and electronic equipment in general. “We are in full expansion, both in the number of members and in the scope of the topics addressed, including ESG, energy transition, circular economy, industrial innovation, international trade and reindustrialization,” highlights Jorge.

Eletros’ differential lies in active listening to companies. “All agendas are built collaboratively with the members, ensuring real impact on improving the business environment and attracting investments,” says the president. Over these three decades, the electrical and electronics sector has matured, expanded its production capacity and has responded more quickly to consumer demands.

Importance of the sector

Today, Brazil stands out in the production of major appliances, TVs, audio, small appliances and air conditioning. “We have modern and innovative factories, with a high degree of technological sophistication,” says José Jorge. Even so, the competitive scenario requires attention, he adds. “The country needs robust industrial policies, legal security and efficient logistics infrastructure to compete more broadly on the global stage.”

The electrical and electronics sector represents about 3.3% of the industrial GDP and generates approximately 250 thousand direct and indirect jobs in the country. “We are protagonists in the generation of qualified jobs, appreciation of human capital and promotion of sustainability,” says the president.

“Celebrating 30 years of Eletros is reaffirming a commitment to the future.”

Regarding the tariffs imposed by the United States on imported products, Eletros sees challenges and opportunities. “These tariffs generate risks, but also open space for Brazil to expand its presence in the international market with finished products. For this, it is necessary to improve the business environment and reduce the ‘Custo Brasil’. Eletros discusses these issues with the government, seeking modern industrial policies aligned with the global insertion of the sector.”

A look ahead

In terms of the future, the entity sees a promising scenario. “The energy transition, digitalization and the search for comfort and sustainability position home appliances and electronics as key pieces in the transformation of consumption,” says José Jorge. Among the strategic measures to leverage the sector are the promotion of innovation, regulatory predictability, legal security in incentives and access to competitive inputs.

Celebrating 30 years is reaffirming a commitment to the future, says the president. “Eletros has prepared a special agenda. We will have institutional events, meetings in Brasília, new visual identity and campaigns to value the sector. We are also building a new strategic agenda focused on innovation, competitiveness and sustainability, in addition to some surprises.”
