2024: new year, even greater goals, and responsibilities
We are already at the beginning of a new year, and with it, new and major challenges arrive, especially regarding the reverse logistics of end-of-life electronics.
To comply with the legislation, Green Eletron needs to collect and send for recycling 12% by weight of all equipment that its members placed on the market in the base year of 2018. This is equivalent to approximately 8 million kilos of electronics. It is double what was stipulated for 2023!
For the goal to be achieved and for us to provide an environmentally correct destination for these items, we need everyone to come together: government, industry, retail, and the population. We need more investments, initiatives, and programs to optimize different points in this chain and, therefore, increase its value and increase our electronics recycling rates.
The PNRS points out important objectives for us to seek a more prosperous and sustainable Brazil. Only with cooperation between different entities and organizations in our society will we be able to move towards this scenario.
Therefore, in this first article of the year, I invite you to reflect: let’s start 2024 by paying more attention to the topic. Whether government, industry, retail, or consumer, we are all responsible and necessary so that we can leave the ranking of those who generate the most electronic waste and who recycle the least. The time is now!
