The importance of reverse logistics for the circular economy

The circular economy is characterized by the reintroduction of materials recovered in the recycling process. With the growth of the world population and society’s awareness of adherence to new sustainable policies to guarantee economic development, inspiring concepts and practical rules are being adopted to promote a balance between resource consumption and the reabsorption of materials in the production chain.

For this to happen, each sector needs to do its part for the circular economy with actions in waste management, ranging from the redesign of processes, products, and new business models to the optimization of resources, components, and materials with the recycling process.

Brazil took a big step in February 2020, when it sanctioned Federal Decree 10.240/2020, which foresees for this year the implementation throughout the country of reverse logistics policies for home appliances and electronics. The entire sector is making projects so that the goals, even ambitious, are met, so that the discarded products have an environmentally correct destination.
